Things To Know
Summit County Historical Society The mission of Summit County Historical Society is to preserve and interpret the history of Summit County and Akron, and to educate regional communities about the people and events that helped shape our rich history. The Society owns and manages several properties, including the Perkins Stone Mansion (home of Akron's founding family) and the John Brown House (home of the internationally recognized abolitionist), both of which are open to visitors. These properties are, in fact, available for tours, educational programs, special events, and other mission-appropriate uses. The John Brown Home is open every fourth Thursday, May through October, from 4pm to 6pm at no cost. Tours of the Perkins Stone Mansion are available BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 1pm and 3pm. Prices are $6 per adult, $4 for seniors, and free for children 6 and under.
