The museum celebrates continuing progress on its multi-year renovation and expansion project. The main floor of its historic 1916 building reopened in June of 2008, with European old master paintings and American art up to about 1900. And the brand-new east wing opened to the public on June 27, 2009, featuring European and American art from the 1800s to the present, including Impressionism, Modern and contemporary art, and photography. Admission to the museum is always free. Some special exhibitions have admission fees. Special Exhibition: Paul Gauguin: Paris, 1889October 4, 2009-January 18, 2010 This landmark exhibition gathers about 75 paintings, works on paper, woodcarvings, and ceramics by Paul Gauguin and his contemporaries to explore how the artist created his signature style during the year 1889. Co-organized by the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, Paul Gauguin: Paris, 1889 re-creates on a smaller scale the radical independent exhibition that Gauguin organized with his artistic disciples on the grounds of the 1889 Exposition Universelle-a display of about 100 paintings now recognized as the first Symbolist exhibition in Paris. $12, $10 students and seniors; $6 children 6 to 17; children 5 and under free; Free for CMA members; $10 per person adult groups of 10 or more; $8 senior groups of 10 or more
