The museum celebrates continuing progress on its multi-year renovation and expansion project. The main floor of its historic 1916 building reopened in June of 2008, with European old master paintings and American art up to about 1900. And the brand-new east wing opened to the public on June 27, 2009, featuring European and American art from the 1800s to the present, including Impressionism, Modern and contemporary art, and photography. Admission to the museum is always free. Some special exhibitions have admission fees. CURRENT EXHIBITS: Midwest Modern: The Color Woodcuts of Mabel Hewit June 26, 2010 - October 24, 2010 1916 Building Prints and Drawings Galleries The Cleveland Museum of Art has organized an exhibition that focuses on a little-known Cleveland artist, Mabel Hewit. Features 76 works from the museum's collection supplemented with loans from Mr. and Mrs. William Jurey, relatives of the artist, and a New York private collection. This show will inaugurate the opening of the museum's new prints and drawings galleries. The Jewelry of John Paul Miller June 16, 2010 - January 2, 2011 East Wing, Gallery 224 At once an artist, teacher, and craftsman, John Paul Miller personifies a lifetime of creative expression. The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrates this living legend and master goldsmith in an exhibition installation of more than 50 of his incredible works, including sketchbooks and drawings, spanning nearly 60 years of his illustrious career.
